Introduction
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program is designed for those students who want to pursue their study in the field of Mathematics. Mathematics is a basic and powerful tool for solving problems and a highly creative field of study. Mathematics is important to all areas of our society and is a foundation for many different kinds of careers. Mathematical graduates are in high demand and can obtain well paid work in many areas, including teaching, investment banking and finance; the civil service; the pharmaceutical industry; and medicine statistics. Mathematics graduates are highly employable due to the advanced problem-solving, analytical skills and higher level numeracy skills developed by studying this subject.
The program will afford the students:
- An opportunity to expand their knowledge in the field of mathematics and its applications by providing courses at graduate level;
- Preparation for a professional career in education, or in business, industry and research institutions;
- To continue their studies in mathematics, comprehensive knowledge in mathematics and its applications, as well as an opportunity to decide whether they are willing to become mathematicians
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria for admission
- Candidates who have passed 12 years of education with mathematics having minimum 45% marks (Intermediate / A -level / I. Com / DAE or equivalent relevant qualification).
- Candidates who have passed 12 years of education with mathematics having less than 45% marks but have more than 50% marks in mathematics (Intermediate / A -level / I. Com / DAE or equivalent relevant qualification).
- Candidates who have passed 12 years of education with mathematics having less than 45% marks and less than 50% marks in mathematics (Intermediate / A -level / I. Com / DAE or equivalent relevant qualification) shall be eligible subjected to the qualification of customized zero semester with CGPA 2.0/4.0.
- Candidates who have passed 12 years of education without mathematics, with a minimum 45% marks in intermediate or equivalent relevant qualification, shall be eligible but they have to study an extra deficiency course of mathematics offered by the department.
- Candidates who have passed 14 years of education or more (BA/BSC/AD/BS/MSc) with or without mathematics after 12 years of education with Mathematics (Intermediate / A -level / I. Com / DAE or equivalent relevant qualification) having minimum 45% marks or CGPA 2.0/4.0 in each will be eligible but their schemes of studies and minimum time for BS in mathematics will be determined by the equivalence committee of the department/University.
Award of Degree
To become eligible for the award of BS Mathematics degree, the student is required to complete prescribed course work of at least 126 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
