Course Exemption/Transfer of Credit Hour(s) General Policy

The University may grant course exemption and accept transfer of credit hour(s) towards its study programs, where applicable at the time of admission only. It is subject to fulfillment of admission eligibility criteria with the following terms and conditions:

  1. Prospective candidates studying in higher education institutes/universities recognized by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) can only apply online for course exemption/transfer of credit when admissions are opened.
  2. The course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) application must be submitted on or before the closing date of admission along with the following documents:

    1. Original NOC/Migration Certificate (for non-VU students only).
    2. Original consolidated Transcript(s) on which basis course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) is applied (Old VU students can submit photocopies).
    3. Copy of the syllabus with detailed course contents for which the student has applied for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) duly verified/attested by the concerned authority of the institute/university (for non-VU students only).
  3. Students who have been dropped out of university due to exigent circumstances can apply for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) subjected to the submission of proper paperwork from the institute/university. However, students failed by their institute/university cannot apply for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s).
  4. Course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) is not applicable if the applicant seeks admission after the completion of the ZERO semester.
  5. Course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) towards a merit-based degree program requires a merit list qualification.
  6. Applicants can seek course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) based on a diploma qualification only if the diploma was graduation-based admission (14 years of education).
  7. Applications about course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) are considered by the Equivalence Committee on a case to case and course to course basis with reference to Virtual University’s program specific study schemes and course outlines.
  8. Courses pertaining to Specialization, Internship and Final project are not exempted under any circumstances.
  9. Students can apply for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) only once and for a single admission session of a study program.
  10. Course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) cannot be granted for the same level consecutive degrees.
  11. Exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) of course(s) will not be considered, if the applicant has qualified/passed/completed not more than five years.
  12. The accumulative credits accepted for transfer in any program should not exceed one-half (50%) of the total credits required to complete that particular program under any case.
  13. Exempted Course(s)/credit hour(s) transferred shall be displayed in the student’s transcript as exempted and will not be counted towards the calculation of CGPA.
  14. Equivalence Committee determines the minimum resident time and study scheme after course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s).
  15. Upon getting admission on the basis of course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s), the student will not be entitled to any VU-Scholarship/Medal/Merit position.
  16. Course Exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) is a facility, not a matter of right.
  17. The decision of the Equivalence Committee is considered as final and cannot be challenged in any court of law under any circumstances.
  18. The University reserves the right to take legal action against those applicant(s) who either conceal facts or deceive the University by submitting false/fake and/or educational documents, etc.
  19. Processing fee (non-refundable) will be charged upon submitting the course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) application.
  20. Incomplete applications will be rejected straightway.
  21. The applicant(s) will be informed about the decision of the Equivalence Committee through e-mail/courier service.

For Non-VU students in addition to general Policy

  1. Courses with less than a ‘B’ grade or at least 71% marks in annual system will not be considered.
  2. In case of a foreign degree/transcript, an Equivalence Certificate from the HEC (Higher Education Commission of Pakistan) will be required
  3. Duration/level of both degrees (i.e. the degree program for which admission is applied and the degree on basis of which the course exemption is applied) should be the same.
  4. Transcript/mark sheet on which basis candidate(s) intend to apply for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) must be issued by the examination department of the HEC recognized Institute/University. Any other transcript/marks sheet issued will not be considered.

For VU-Students in addition to general Policy

  1. Courses having a ‘C’ or above grade will be considered for exemption/transfer.
  2. If the student applies for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) based on VU Certificate Course(s) then they must surrender those certificate courses.
  3. Students whose admissions were cancelled by themselves or by the University can also apply.

COURSE EXEMPTIONS for BACHELOR’S DEGREES HOLDERS having atleast 45% MARKS.

Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree with at least 45% marks from a recognized University and admitted to a BS program will be exempted on their request from the following subjects:

1. English Comprehension (3 credits)
2. Islamic Studies (1 credit)
3. Pakistan Studies (2 credit)

The following courses will be exempted for students, who have studied any of the following subjects at the graduation level.

B.A./B.Sc. Graduates

Engineering Graduates

All B.E. degree holders from recognized universities shall be exempt from the following courses:

  1. Calculus and Analytical Geometry
  2. Multi Variable Calculus
  3. Differential Equations
  4. Linear Algebra
  5. Statistics and Probability
  6. Circuit Theory
  7. Introduction to Computing

In addition, the following courses will be exempted for students who have qualified the specializations listed below:
