Admission Through Course Exemption

Course Exemption / Transfer of Credit Hours / General Policy

The University may grant course exemptions and accept transfer of credit hours for specific study programs. All students of VU and other recognized institutes applying for transfer of credits must abide by the following general rules:

  1. Prospective students studying in Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognised / Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) can only apply online for course exemption/transfer of credit hours admission are opened.
  2. The course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) application must be submitted on or before the closing date of admission along with the following documents:
    • Original NOC/Migration Certificate (For non-VU students only).
    • Detailed Marks Certificate/Official Transcript on which basis course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) is applied (For VU students current/last transcript).
    • Copy of the syllabus with detailed course contents for which the student has applied for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) duly verified/attested by the competent authority of the institute/university (For non-VU students only).
  3. Students who have been dropped out of university due to missed discipline/etc can apply for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) subject to the submission of proper documents from the formal university.
  4. Course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) is not applicable if the applicant was enrolled in another institute on or after zero semester.
  5. Course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) towards a merit-based degree program will have a strict limit/condition.
  6. Applicants can claim course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) based on a diploma qualification only if the diploma was graduated out of a recognized board/university.
  7. Applications without required/complete documentation will be rejected.
  8. Course(s) relating to Specialization/Core computer/final project are not exempted under any circumstances.
  9. Students can apply for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) only once and form a rigid part/data section of a study program.
  10. Course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) cannot be applied for the zero level semester program.
  11. Course(s) where the applicant has obtained less than 60% marks or Grade ‘C’ will not be considered.
  12. The maximum credits permitted to be transferred into a program are strictly limited. Over half (50%) of the total credits required to complete the particular program are maximum.
  13. Exempted Course(s) with Grade mentioned shall be displayed in the outcome transcript accordingly and will not be counted towards the calculation of CGPA.
  14. Equivalence Committee determines the minimum required time and study scheme after course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s).
  15. Upon getting admission on the basis of course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s), the student will not be entitled to any VU Merit Scholarship / Gold Medal etc.
  16. Course Exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) is a facility, not a matter of right.
  17. The decision of the Equivalence Committee is considered as final and cannot be challenged in any court of law whatsoever.
  18. The University reserves the right to take legal action against those applicants who submit forged/fake documents.
  19. The fee for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) will be charged upon submitting the course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) application.
  20. Paid fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable.
  21. The applicant(s) will be informed about the decision of the Equivalence Committee through email in due course.

For Non-VU Students in Addition to General Policy

  • The rules will be affecting applicants effectively from non-VU institutions globally.
  • A non-refundable application processing fee will be charged in addition to the admission form processing fee (which must be paid on separate vouchers).
  • A maximum of 50% courses from the degree program for which admission is applied will be exempted in case of identical course outlines are provided/matched.
  • Students who have completed a degree program(s) and want to apply for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) must be aware that the courses already counted towards a completed degree program will not be considered.

For VU Students in Addition to General Policy

  • Course(s) with Grade ‘D’ or below will not be considered for course exemption/transfer.
  • If the student applies for course exemption/transfer of credit hour(s) based on VU studies, they can omit the original NOC/Migration Certificate.
  • Students whose admissions were cancelled by themselves or by the University are eligible to apply

Course Exemptions for Bachelor's Degrees Holders having atleast 45% Marks.

Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree with at least 45% marks from a recognized University and admitted to a BS program will be exempted from the equivalent of the following courses:

  • English Comprehension (ENG101)
  • Islamic Studies (ISL201)
  • Pakistan Studies (PAK301)

The following courses will be exempted in addition, which are studied any of below subjects at the graduation level:

All BE degree holders (in any field of engineering) shall be exempted from the following courses:

  1. Calculus and Analytical Geometry
  2. Multivariate Calculus
  3. Differential Equations
  4. Linear Algebra
  5. Statistics and Probability
  6. Circuit Theory
  7. Introduction to Computing

In addition, the following courses will be exempted for students who have studied the specific subjects as below:
